Say goodbye to traffic light system

Covid Update

The traffic light system put in place to guide the country’s COVID-19 response ends at midnight tonight, to the relief of particularly the hospitality and retail sectors. It signals a new approach to the Government’s response, and also sees the provisions allowing the Government to make rules for COVID-19 to lapse. Over time COVID-19 will be dealt with the same way as the flu, and in the meantime, changes include:

  • No requirements to scan in or for businesses to display QR code posters or have mandatory record keeping
  • No requirements to wear a mask unless in healthcare or aged care, although healthy habits are encouraged
  • Isolation for seven days for those who test positive for COVID-19, but not for close contacts if they test negative with a RAT
  • Business with vaccine mandates will have until September 26 to assess risks.
